Anne Neary of Ryeland House

Autumn has arrived

Autumn has arrived, the evenings are starting to close in on us and before long Christmas will be upon us. The corona virus pandemic continues on but with many people getting vaccinated we are starting to reopen for business here at Ryeland House just as many others are throughout the country.

We are excited to announce a very special masterclass and demonstration on the handling and preparation of fish and shellfish on Saturday the 2nd of October. On arrival at 10am you will be served scones and coffer prior to the start of the demonstration, which will be delivered by Liam, a fishmonger from the famous Billy Bourks fishshop in Waterford, Liam will explain how to choose fish that is really fresh and will demonstrate how to prepare it for cooking. When Liam has finished preparing the seafood, Anne will show you how to cook it to perfection. Lunch will be served at approximately 1:30, with an estimated finish time of 3pm. Lunch includes starter, seafood main, glass of wine with coffee and dessert to finish.

In addition to our adult classes we are offering two 2 day cookery camps for teenagers and younger children in October as well as a cookery class for Transition Year students during the last week in October.

Anne intends to continue with her new, gastro tour venture based around the delights of Kilkenny City when people can travel again. To get an idea of what will be available check out her tasting tours at www.kilkennytastingtours.com for more information. They are a great way of introducing visitors to the beautiful place we live in.

Last year we hosted several small group (maximum 14 people) Corporate Team Building events at Ryeland House which were a great sucess. Anne has also worked with various schools and colleges to develop and deliver cookery courses that combine the theory of cooking with a very strong practical element. In all her work, Anne's focus has been on the creation of great tasting, wholesome food made with the best possible local ingredients. Throughout her career Anne has been a very strong advocate for local Artisan food producers and has strived to pass this passion on to her students. She feels that cooking is an activity that should be enjoyed and Anne has a fresh, fun approach to her classes.
